Are They TUFF Enough?

Texans United for Families - TUFF - is "an umbrella organization made up of advocacy groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union, Grassroots Leadership Initiative, League of United Latin American Citizens, and Texas Civil Rights Project."

They are protesting the jailing of immigrant families at the  T. Don Hutto Residential Center in Taylor, Texas, run by Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) as contracted out to Corrections Corporation of America, a private prison company "that ICE pays more than $2.8 million a month to run the facility."

A local attorney says, "It's the lipstick on the pig problem. ... No matter how humane they make Hutto, the question still remains: Is it acceptable for the United States to imprison children, criminal or non? No, it's not. These families shouldn't be in prison."
