Where Crime and Mental Health Collide
According to a study released today by U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), the research arm of the DOJ, an astonishing one half of the nation’s prison and jail inmates suffer from mental health problems---figures that are far worse than most imagined. (Note: This is not entirely a surprise to some experts who’ve long said that, when it comes to solving the nation’s criminal justice problems, mental health is the elephant in the middle of the room.)
